Since the beginning of my apprenticeship on 07/01/2019 me and my mentor, Jordan, have been working on a new website for our company. We started building it from scratch, which involved setting up a local server and sending to it all Joomla installation files. Having done that, we installed all extensions that are usually used by the company (including premium software for security and backups). The next step was to strip the template off its default features and start building the website, so that it looks as planned by our design team (although, some talks with them were necessary to recalculate the actual size of images used).

Our works began by breaking the main page into two sections, i.e. a main bar and a nav bar. The nav bar, unlike usual designs, is quite wide and consist of a set of tiles acting as links. If fact, it was my idea to loop them. What I mean is to make a vertical carousel out of them, so that the user can scroll them indefinitely both ways. This was achieved by some extensive coding.

The main bar, however, is much simpler. It comprises of a company logo, acting as a link to the home page, main image and a burger menu. Clicking this menu shows a list of campaigns and services provided by the company and smoothly changes the burger icon into a cross. Then the user can click out of it by clicking the cross or any other place on the main bar, which is not covered by the newly displayed burger menu.

Currently we are working on displaying a you tube video in the main bar section.
All of that was done using HTML, CSS, JavaScript and jQuery.

Moreover, during the week I have taken part in a few meetings and assisted in maintenance of clients’ websites. This involved multiple tasks, including posting new content, troubleshooting, making changes in existing query forms, backing up the websites and installing updates.
